Hawaii is not just rich in natural beauty and man made structures but it has an extensive history too. According to historians around 300 AD Polynesians from the Marquesas and Society Islands first inhabited the islands. After them came the Tahitian in 1300 AD. The Tahitians overpowered and removed the original inhabitants of the islands.

Some European explorers believe that foreigners prior to the arrival of the British explorer James Cook in 1778 visited Hawaii. By and large Cook is honored as the discoverer of the Hawaii islands after he first plot and publish the geographical coordinates of the Hawaiian Islands. Cook named is discovery the Sandwich Islands.

In 1795 the Hawaiian territory was an arena to a series of battles. In 1810 there took place the peaceful cession of the island of Kauali and led to the unification of the Hawaiian islands under a single ruler known as King Kamehameha the Great. The king founded a dynasty called the House of Kamehameha. The dynasty remained in power till 1872.

The suppression of the Hawaiian Catholic Church led to the establishment of the religious freedom in Hawaii. As the King Kamehameha V died without any successor, elections were held in the islands. King Lunalilo was the elected king then.

After Lunalilo, Kalakaua became the king. In 1887 some American and European businessmen forced king Kalakaua to sign the Bayonet Constitution according to which king was deprived of all his administrative powers and Asians were no more allowed to vote. The constitution also set minimum income property requirements for Americans, Europeans and native Hawaiian voters and so limited the electorate to rich Americans, Europeans and native Hawaiians.

The King Kalakaua died in 1891 and his sister, Lililuokalani succeeded the throne. The lady became the victim of a coup d'etat of the American and European businessmen and so was overthrown right after two years, in 1893.

In 1896 Willian Mc Kinley was elected the president of Hawaii. In 1897 Kinley signed a treaty for the annexation of Hawaiian territory by the United States of America. In 1898 the Newlands Resolution was passed and despite of large-scale protests Hawaii was formally annexed by the United States.

>Years passed, and in 1959-60 Hawaii was declared the 50th state of the Union. After getting the status of a state Hawaii progressed with a rapid speed. At present it is a developed state looking for more avenues to bloom
